Unleashed

Unleashed is the heart wrenching story of Danny (Jet Li) who as a young boy was brought inhumanely by a loanshark (Bob Hoskins) and was trained to murder once his dog collar is taken off. Although Danny was brought up as an animal, he is a human, and through the intervention of music and the care and love of a blind piano tuner (Morgan Freeman), and his stepdaughter (Kerry Condon), Danny discovers another side of life.

Unleashed is definitely not your typical action movie. There are some spectacular fight scenes, but the emphasis is put on the relationship between Morgan Freeman and his stepdaughter, Jet Li, and on the development of Danny's new found life. Danny thirsts for more than just killing; he discovers music and is saved by it. Music also plays a key role in his self-discovery as it awakens long-lost memories of his mother and childhood.

For the first time, the audience are treated to Jet Li's true acting abilities. Jet Li seems genuine and honest--perhaps this is because he openly acknowledges that this film is close to his heart. As a Buddhist, Jet Li is against violence, and this film portrays the fight between humanity and violence.

This drama is a surprising break from a usual Jet Li flick. The fact that the number of action scenes are limited is counter-balanced by Yuen Wo Ping's masterful choreography; do not expect a non-stop brawl. Do however expect an clevel, touching story featuring amazing actors with breath taking action sequences.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

The fourth installment of J.K. Rowling's children fantasy novels, Harry Potter, will be released world wide in movie form November 15th, 2005. Alfonso CuarĂ³n (director of the third movie) was offered the chance to direct Goblet of Fire, but declined as he would still be working on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Mike Newell took the job but decided against the studio's original idea of adapting the book into two separate films to be released several months apart. He figured that he could cut enough of the book's subplots in order to agree with the time restraints of one film. Mike Newell is the first British director of the series, and with Rowling's assistance, this film should be the most spectacular by far. With the smashing success of the sixth book which was released on July 16th 2005, the fourth movie will be sure to follow in its foot steps.

Basic Plot Synopsis: After spending the Quidditch World Cup with the Weasley family, Harry Potter arrives back at Hogwarts and finds himself entered in the Triwizard Tournament, a challenging competition featuring three dangerous tasks. Harry has to compete with three other wizards, Viktor Krum from Durmstrang, Fleur Delacour from Beauxbatons, and Cedric Diggory from Hogwarts. Harry Potter's arch nemesis, Lord Voldemort, is regaining strength and has his own plans for the Triwizard Tournament. "Evil times lay ahead, Harry" is the catch phrase of the movie, which is quite accurate since Goblet of Fire is the darkest of the Harry Potter series.
